Internet service resumes in libraries

Shropshire Council would like to announce that the internet service in the 22 libraries in the county is operational again after the recent server problem which caused limited access for two days.

The server suffered a major fault and was damaged beyond repair, but has since been replaced and all libraries now have internet service once more.

Council officers swiftly sought to identify the cause of the difficulty and to replace the damaged server.  As a result of such action being taken, internet service has been restored within two days rather than the predicted seven.  During the two-day disruption, there was a limited internet service provided in the libraries.

Neil Langford, Shropshire Council’s head of service responsible for IT, said:

“I am glad to announce that internet service has been resumed in the county’s libraries.  We worked hard to fix the problem so our customers’ access to the internet wasn’t limited for too long.

“The damaged server had been serviced regularly and the fault it suffered could not have been foreseen or planned for.  However, once the fault did occur, we worked quickly to identify it and subsequently replace the server in order to get the service running as normal.  At no point during the two days was the internet service totally down, but there was limited access due to the issue.”
