Highley LJC – come along and get involved

Related topics: Democracy

Highley Local Joint Committee (LJC) is holding its next meeting at Severn Centre, Highley on Wednesday 6 March 2013 at 7pm.

The main focus of the meeting will be young people, with a presentation from Richard Morley from South Shropshire Youth Forum talking about their work and what they could do for the young people of Highley.

There will also be the opportunity to hear more about the Health Check Initiative, which is aimed at those between the ages of 40 and 74 in Shropshire to create awareness about the risks of heart and kidney disease, type 2 diabetes and strokes, and to show how a ‘health check’ can help in the early detection of the conditions, and suggest lifestyle changes to help combat them.

There will also be the opportunity to ask your Shropshire Councillors, town councillors and parish councillors any questions and raise any concerns you have.

The LJC also distributes grants to help local community projects.  In the past, Highley Cricket Club, Highley Rugby Club, Highley Minors playgroup, Highley Hot Shots football group, Highley Summer Pride, parish council notice-boards, and Highley Brownies have all benefited from funding from the LJC.

Councillor Mary Nicholls, who chairs the meeting, said:

“Over the last year we have covered many interesting topics such as Highley Parish Plan, fire safety, the Localism Bill and ip&e, Shropshire Council’s new company.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, take part in the discussions, and help us shape future meetings.  Do come along and join in.”
