Rea Bridge in Neen Sollars, which was closed on an emergency basis in July 2012 after parts of it collapsed following exceptionally severe flooding, is due to re-open to traffic at 5pm today, 19 October 2012.

The repair work was carried out by Ringway who were supervised by the Council’s term contract consultant, Mouchel.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance said:

‘‘I’m pleased that it has been possible to complete the work and re-open the bridge despite the wet weather that we have experienced recently. Because the bridge is a listed building, the repair has been carried out in consultation with the Council’s conservation team ’’.

Local ward member for Cleobury Mortimer, Councillor Gwilym Butler added;

“I would like to thank the officers from Shropshire Council and the contractors in the way they have given this repair priority to get it re-opened. It is a vital artery within the community and I know residents and businesses alike will be pleased.”

Whilst it is too early to be able to confirm the actual cost of repairing the bridge, it is estimated that it will be in the region of £75,000.

The new Shrewsbury Museum is still scheduled to open in late summer 2013.  The project remains within the original budget of 10.5 million.
