Skateboard, BMX and other wheeled sports enthusiasts around the Broseley area will be pleased to know there will be free mobile skate ramps at Birchmeadow Park’s car park over schoolpupils’ half-term holiday.

Following a request from the Broseley Youth Partnership, Shropshire Council’s outdoor recreation team have arranged for the mobile skate ramps to be placed on Birchmeadow Park’s car park.

The temporary skate ramps will be in place on Saturday 27 October, Tuesday 30 October and Wednesday 31 Octoberm 2012.

The skate ramps will be located on the bottom car park next to the changing rooms between 11am and 4pm on each day.  The ramps can be used for BMX, skateboards and other wheeled sports, and will be closely supervised by officers and volunteers.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibiliy for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“It’s great to see that we have been able to respond to the requests of the Broseley Youth Partnership and provide them with a temporary skate ramp.  It’s encouraging to see young people supporting and being active in their communities.”

Participants and anyone else using the park will also get the opportunity to talk to our community greenspace officer and volunteers about the park facilities.

Jean Jones, local Shropshire Councillor for Broseley, said:-

“I would like to thank Shropshire Council for arranging to bring the mobile skate ramps to Broseley during the half-term holiday; this is a good opportunity for local youngsters to enjoy the activities and also to demonstrate the level of interest.

“Young people have been active in campaigning for a skate/BMX facility for a number of years: over time, they and their parents have raised money, attended meetings and volunteered to help create a facility.  The Broseley Youth Partnership is hoping to arrange transport to similar facilities elsewhere, and Shropshire Council is currently investigating the possibility of obtaining external funding for a more permanent facility in Broseley.”

Amy Davies, community greenspace officer at Shropshire Council, said:

“The ramps are free to access and are based on a first come, first served basis. Everyone is free to attend.  We’ll be down at Birchmeadow Park to talk to people about the facilities.

You don’t have to use the skate ramps, just come down to the park and talk to one of our volunteers about what you think about the facilities at the park.”
