Traffic light problems in Shrewsbury

Related topics: Uncategorized

The traffic lights at the junction of Lower Claremont Bank and Bridge Street in Shrewsbury are currently not working properly, which is causing some congestion in the town centre.

A piece of software which controls the lights depending on traffic flow malfunctioned on Thursday (16 February 2012), meaning they are not working as efficiently as usual.  Engineers are now manually controlling the lights during busy periods to try to keep traffic flowing as well as possible, but some disruption to traffic is likely.

Shropshire Council has reported the problem to its contractors, who will be working to fix the lights as quickly as possible.

Councillor Simon Jones, Cabinet member responsible for traffic management, said:

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this problem, and are hoping the lights will be repaired as soon as possible.  In the meantime, engineers are doing their best to keep traffic moving by manually controlling the lights during the rush hour.”
