Residents from Much Wenlock have been busy designing and making colourful flags which will be used to welcome the Olympic Flame when it visits the town on Wednesday 30 May 2012.

Shropshire Council and artist Helen Davies hosted the flag workshop on Friday 10 February 2012 at High Causeway in the town.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“Around 100 fantastic, colourful flags made by local people will be used to line the route of the Olympic Torch Relay this May.”

“We want as many people as possible to get involved and celebrate the arrival of the Olympic Flame.  Please get in touch with us if you’re planning a special welcome by calling 0345 678 9000.”

Milner Whiteman, Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, said:

“I am very pleased that over 100 flags are being made by Much Wenlock residents to welcome the Olympic Torch to the home town of William Penny Brookes, who inspired the rebirth of the modern Olympic Games.  These will ensure that the Torch will have a very colourful welcome to Much Wenlock on 30 May.”

This flag workshop was one of five which recently took place across the county, set up to make it easy for people to be part of the once in a lifetime celebrations.
