Council encourages people to recycle their electrical equipment

Shropshire Council is backing Recycle Now’s national campaign to get more people to recycle their broken or unwanted electrical equipment in the run up to Christmas.

A recent survey (carried out on behalf of Recycle Now) revealed that a staggering 94 per cent of people admit to owning broken or unused electrical appliances that are simply gathering dust.

The campaign aims to let people know about the opportunities to recycle electrical items, instead of throwing them away.

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for waste and recycling, said:

“We hope that this campaign will help make people aware, firstly that they can recycle electronic appliances, and secondly where to take them.  We are fortunate in Shropshire to have secured external funding to help promote this campaign.

“It’s easy for us all to recycle small appliances and gadgets, simply take them along to your local recycling facility.  It’s easy to find, use the postcode finder on www.recyclenow.com and you will see where your nearest local recycling facility is.”
