Gobowen, Selattyn, Weston Rhyn and St Martins Local Joint Committee (LJC) have an exciting agenda for their next meeting, which will inform people on the progress to date on the Big Local project which is going to bring funding of one million pounds to the area.

The meeting, to be held on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at 7pm at St Martins Centre, will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the Telford and Shropshire Broadband Project.  Alison Brock from Shropshire Council will be making a presentation detailing the steps towards speeding up broadband, giving a timeframe for improvements.

Other items on the agenda include a presentation detailing feedback from the young people survey completed with the help of Shropshire Council’s youth participation team.

11 projects totalling £10,793 have been awarded funding to date, leaving approximately £16,000 available for new applications.  The committee have 12 applications for consideration in this round, including a request for a further allocation of £2,500 to ensure that the proposed zebra crossing at Gobowen will go ahead this financial year.

Councillor David Lloyd, Chairman of the Gobowen, Selattyn, Weston Rhyn and St Martins LJC, said:

”These well-attended meetings are proving vital in shaping and seeking to respond to the needs of the locality.  We have invited Nick Heard, Big Local Development Group member, to provide an update on the Big Local, which will be forming a local partnership to oversee the funding programme for projects identified by the community.  We are confident that we are well placed to support this area and the opportunities available to us.”
