Repairs for Wheelbarrow Bridge near Chapel Lawn

Wheelbarrow Bridge will be closed from Monday 15 August 2011 for up to four weeks to enable essential maintenance work to be carried out. 

The bridge carries the unclassified road from Pentre to Hobarris over a brook near Chapel Lawn. 

The work will involve concreting the invert of the brook at the bridge to prevent its supporting walls from being undercut by flood water. 

Unfortunately the bridge must be closed while the work is being done, for safety reasons.  

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via New Invention, the A488 road and Pen-y-wern.   Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available at the bridge throughout the works. 

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Councillor for transport, said:

“It is appreciated that the proposed work may cause some inconvenience.  However, every reasonable effort will be made to complete it as soon as possible.”
