New surface for Church Lane in Hadnall

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s new cabinet member for transport has been overseeing work to resurface Church Lane in Hadnall today (Monday 20 June 2011), which is just one of many road maintenance schemes taking place over the next few months.

Simon, who is also the local councillor for Shawbury, said:

“This essential work is just one of a number of road repairs taking place across the county following damage caused by the extremely cold winter weather.

“We were thrilled to receive £3,615,511 from the Government in March 2011 and carefully put together a programme of works highlighting and prioritising the roads most in need of repair.

“Today has been great – it’s been a real learning curve.  Our contractors work extremely hard and seem to be doing an excellent job at keeping the potholes at bay.”

The work in Church Lane required a road closure for one day and consisted of renewing the existing surfacing using approximately 170 tonnes of surfacing material.  Similar schemes identified across Shropshire have employed various techniques depending on the condition of the road, such as resurfacing, structural patching, and applying surface treatments.  This will ensure that the county’s road network is protected prior to the onset of next winter.

Although the council regularly reviews the condition of the roads, it also relies on help from local people to identify those which are in most need of repair.  Therefore, it’s encouraging people to get in touch and report potholes online, by emailing customer.service@shropshire.gov.uk or calling 0345 678 9006.
