A total of 14 sacks of rubbish and 860 kg of road sweeper arisings were collected on Wednesday (22 June 2011) as part of the Bridgnorth deep clean.

Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team and two Bridgnorth councillors, John Hurst-Knight and Les Winwood got involved in the litter pick to clear Victoria Road, Sydney Cottage Drive, Beech Road, Ash Road, Woodberry Close, Elizabeth Avenue, Racecourse Drive, Tasley Close, Bowers Close, Leasowes Close, Clee View Road, Wrekin Road and Haughton Close.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“I’d like to congratulate everyone for their hard work in keeping the town’s streets clean and tidy. It makes a huge difference to both residents and visitors.”

Les Winwood, Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth West and Tasley, said:

“I would like to thank all those who took part in the environmental deep clean on the West ward. Our living environment is so important to all our residents and any improvement is a benefit to us all.”

John Hurst-Knight, Shropshire Councillor for Bridgnorth West and Tasley, said:

“This was another action of the partnership working for the benefits of the community. Although it rained during our litter pick it did not effect the determination of those involved during the morning to help in the exercise.”

This litter pick was carried out as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and was carried out in addition to the council’s routine street cleaning schedule.
