Coronavirus: Stay safe when heading out to pubs, bars and beer gardens

Shropshire Council is calling on pubgoers to continue to follow public health guidance to protect themselves and others from the spread of the coronavirus.

Rachel Robinson, Shropshire’s director of public health, said:

“The majority of our local pubs and bars have gone above and beyond to make sure people can enjoy themselves in a safe and COVID-19-secure environment.

“Unfortunately, we have received reports that social distancing isn’t being observed in a small number of venues.

“We all have to do our bit. Use hand sanitiser in the venues you go to. Please follow any signage or instructions and remember to observe social distancing – that’s 2m where possible, or 1m with further mitigations like face coverings, to keep yourself and others safe. And it is important to give your details when you are asked to, for the NHS Test and Trace service.

“If you feel unwell or have coronavirus symptoms, please stay at home to protect yourself and loved ones.

“We continue to work with and advise venues, to help ensure they are complying with the guidance. But venues can only do so much. It is for us all to to play our part.”

How you can help

  • Wash your hands and use hand sanitiser stations – especially when arriving or leaving a venue
  • Use contactless payment where possible
  • Order remotely where you can via an app
  • Staying in your designated seating area
  • Listen to staff and follow signage.

Sitting inside

If you are sitting inside, you should do so only with members of your household and one other household (or support bubble)

 Sitting outside

If you are sitting or standing outside, you should do so only with members of your household and one other household (or support bubble).

You can also sit or stand outside with up to five people from different households. In all cases, people from different households should ensure they socially distance as much as possible.
